Museum Bistro Rollerhof

The Rollerhof offers a delicious and varied bistro cuisine as well as tapas from around the world. Despite the restaurant’s modern furnishing, it is evident that the house holds a lot of history.

The Bistro team welcomes you to the heart of Basel for lunch, afternoon tea or coffee, or drinks and dinner in the evening. Historical features create a very special atmosphere and large format photographs of collection items related to food reveal that the museum is close by.

Food culture
Peter and Béatrice Sattler and their team offer a large range of snacks and full bistro meals – from salad bowls, to quiches and tarte flambées, to St Gallen veal sausages with rösti. One of their specialities is Entrecote Café de Paris. Weekly changing menus complement the culinary offer.

From Thursday through Saturday, the Bistro team has on offer tapas from around the world (from 6pm on), of course next to the house’s other evening specialities such as the signature entrecote.

Steeped in history
The Museum Bistro holds centuries of Basel history in its walls. The “Rollerhof” was mentioned in the public records for the first time in 1355. Previous owners include the Basel minster chapter, city mayors, factory owners, as well as a banker associated with the royal Austrian-Hungarian court.

In 1667, the courtyard was furnished with picturesque arcades. A hundred years later, rococo stucco ceilings were added to the inside rooms before, finally, in 2000 the architects Diener & Diener succeeded in merging the historical structure with the demands of a modern restaurant.

For special events
If you are planning a special event and require an appropriate venue, the premises of the Rollerhof are the ideal place. The catering is in the hands of the experienced Bistro team. They will put together a culinary offer according to your taste and wishes. For more information go to your event at the museum.
